SPRING REJUVENATION

.

Spring is a time of renewal.  It’s a time for cleaning out the old and bringing forth the new, a time of change and potential.  While the phrase “spring cleaning” has been used for the house, it is also a good metaphor for one’s health.  It is important to “dust out the cobwebs”, so to speak, of your body and mind and bring forth new opportunities.  In Chinese medicine, this idea of rejuvenation is very important.  The long winter has created stagnation and old habits, and it’s important to mentally and physically snap out of those old patterns.  The body is a reflection of the environment, so we are also “blossoming”, whether it may be new ideas or a sense of hope.  In order to better prepare for this time of change, there are some very simple adjustments you can incorporate into your life that will ease the transition.

Diet: Spring is all about buds, so it’s a great time to eat as many young leafy greens (alphalpha, dandelion leaves, lettuce greens) as you can.  Mix some fresh spring greens for a salad, top with some walnuts or almonds, and add a lemon ginger dressing for a light tangy taste.  Pair that with quinoa as a delicious substitute to heavy starchy foods.  You can mix the quinoa with some sauteed vegetables (mushrooms, zucchinis, kale, chard) since it is a high source of protein and amino acids to help you get through your day.  Whatever you eat, make sure you take the time to enjoy each bite and savor the fresh taste of spring’s bounty.

Exercise: Start taking walks around your neighborhood or park.  Notice the spring buds all around you and breathe in the fresh scent of blossoms.  Doing at least 20 minutes of brisk walking will not only improve your circulation, but it will help to relieve stress and clear your mind of old thoughts and patterns.

Meditation: Sit in a chair or lie down, and focus on your breath.  Count as you inhale and exhale and take notice of any differences between them.  Try to balance out your breath so that your inhale is the same as your exhale.  Do this for 5 to 10 minutes daily.  You can also pair this with a warm epsom saltwater foot soak to relax your feet, calm your mind and balance your whole body.  Try to do this at least once a week.

ACUPUNCTURE is NATURAL pain management.

.

Too many people suffer needlessly with chronic aches and pains. Allopathic medicine has little to offer with their prescription pharmaceuticals, which should not be used long term and can often have dangerous addictive properties.

Acupuncture is helping more and more people manage their chronic pains, while reducing their need for pain killers. The best part is that Acupuncture works NATURALLY!

Pagoda would like to welcome you as a new patient! Please contact us at 503.841.9105 to schedule your appointment today!
